Covid Vaccinations Update 25/01/21 Posted or Updated on 26 May 2022

We have nearly completed vaccinating our over 80+ age group with only a few remaining patients to contact. Our supply of 100 doses has been depleted today and we are thrilled to report we had no unattended appointments. Thank you to all our patients for attending and honouring your appointment to avoid vaccine waste.

We have been advised by our local health board (Aneurin Bevan University Health Board) that the next group we have to move on to is the Clinically extremely vulnerable individuals as set out in Group 4 by the JCVI (Joint Committee on Vaccinating and Immunising).

Group 3 (Patients aged between 75-79) will be invited to the Mass Vaccination Clinics and will receive letters from the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board with appointments.

We are currently waiting to see if patients aged 70 - 74 (who are also in Group 4) will be vaccinated by us or the Mass Vaccination Centres. Current supplies (100 doses per week) may not allow us to do this imminently. We will need to await further guidance on supply distribution before we can update you further.

Please do not call the surgery to query this. We will update you as and when we know.

Can we also kindly remind our Merthyr Tydfil County Borough patients that if a patient in your street or someone who you know that is in your same age group, has already had the vaccine or has an upcoming appointment for the vaccine, this is probably or mainly because they are registered with a Cwm Taf surgery such as Treharris, Bedlinog, Aberfan etc. These surgeries are vaccinating patients as set out by the guidelines from Cwm Taf Health Board. We have received an increasing amount of calls asking us why we are not doing the same. Nelson Surgery is NOT under the guidance of Cwm Taf health board and has to adhere to any guidelines and rules the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board puts in place.  We appreciate how eager you are to have the vaccine which is highly promising, but please continue to be patient with us.

Supplies to us are still low so we are aiming to vaccinate patients as quickly as supplies allow.

Thank you.
