Surgery Update - 24/03/2020 Posted or Updated on 26 May 2022

We would like to thank our patients at Nelson Surgery for your compliance and assistance following our advice this week. We would appreciate your continued support in following our advice for the foreseeable future.

We have been receiving an increased number of calls and have been answering them as quickly as possible.

Coronavirus Symptoms

If you do have any symptoms of Coronavirus (Cough, Raised temperature, Flu/cold like symptoms)

Please do not attend your GP or Hospital

If you have mild symptoms please make sure you follow government advice and self-isolate for 7 days if you live alone, If you live with other people, do so for the whole household for 14 days.

If you have worsening symptoms, please call 111

Rescue Packs

A rescue pack consists of antibiotic and steroid treatment. This is available to patients that are diagnosed with COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease). We do not prescribe this for patients with Asthma.

Repeat Prescriptions

We would prefer your repeat prescription to be ordered in writing, please do not attend the surgery.

You can email your request to:

Nelson.Surgery.W95043@wales.nhs.uk

MHOL (my health online)

If you are already signed up to this, please carry on using as normal. If you are not signed up to this and would like to be, there is an application form on our website, please complete and email back along with a copy of a form of ID.

You can also put your request in via your pharmacy.

We do not usually take any repeat prescriptions over the telephone. In these circumstances we have been making exceptions as we understand some patients are self-isolating or are social distancing.

Please avoid collecting your prescription from the surgery, let us know which pharmacy you would like us to send your prescription to.

You may now also be aware that we are also supplying 3 months worth of medications. Some patients have been put on a temporary batch prescription, others may have been given a months prescription as normal along with a further two months that are post-dated. You will have an information slip explaining what to do. Please make sure you keep prescriptions safe as these will not be reissued. On the dates that they are due, please take these to the pharmacy. If you have not received these, PLEASE DO NOT PANIC - There may be certain circumstances where we have been unable to do this, or your prescription may have been printed before the advisory came into place. If this is the case, unless advised otherwise, order your repeat prescription at your normal time in writing via email or your pharmacy.

Pharmacies

You may or may not be aware that pharmacies have been advised to close during lunchtime hours.

Pharmacies will not be open between 12pm and 2pm for the foreseeable future.

Due to government advice the maximum number of people allowed into the pharmacies at one given time is:

Shepphards, Nelson - 4 people

RD & MR Parry, Treharris - 6 people

Please take into consideration social distancing and DO NOT present at the pharmacy if you are suffering from any coronavirus symptoms

As you are aware, the pharmacies are also under extreme pressure at this time. So please be patient.

Sick Notes

The Government advice strongly suggests that employers are to use discretion around the need for medical evidence for a period of absense where an employee is advised to stay at home due to being unwell themselves, or due to one of their household being unwell in accordance with public health advice that has been issued. If your employer insists on an isolation note, please obtain one from the following link
